Eye Diseases of Jack Russell Dogs
As Jack Russell dogs are considered as working dogs, these dogs should have healthy eyes to do its job. The eyes of these dogs are more important than its coats and usually these dogs have almond shaped eyes. Regular cleaning of the eyes of these dogs are not only enough for its healthy condition. One of the best ways to protect their eyes from complete blindness and impairment is by knowing the common eye problems.
Some of the diseases which will cause serious damage to your dog’s eye is cataract. “Cataract” is a genetic disease which is characterized by spot on the eye’s lens or by cloudiness. This condition normally occurs when there is loss of regular transparency on the lens of the dog’s eye. Cataract will blur the vision and it may also lead to permanent blindness if not treated properly.
This disease is commonly assumed as a genetic disease, but it can also cause by diabetes, old age, radiation, eye injury or by exposure to great heat. Other reasons for cataracts include lack of nourishment, PPM (persistent papillary membrane), inflammation and also by specific metabolic diseases. “Distichiasis” is also an eye disease which will arise of the small hairs which are grown in the inner surface of the dog’s lower eyelids.
