Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell Dogs are tough little terriers and working dogs that originating in England. They are not the same as parson russell terriers, those are mainly for show and rarely seen hunting. A JRT (Jack Russell Terrier) must be over 51% white and can have black and tan spots found mainly around the face and the tail’s base. The undercoat should have a pattern of small brown and black spots that can’t be seen on the outer coat. A Jack Russell Terrier’s ears should fold downward and they have very strong teeth.

Jack Russell Terriers have three different coats, smooth, rough, and broken. The coat should not be soft but rather dense.

Jack Russell’s tails are held upright high and straight. Most breeders have the tails docked to about 5 inches which is about the length of a hand grip. Leaving a JRT’s tail a little long is acceptable, but it too short will make the dog look poorly balanced.
